Outstanding Sushi Restaurants in the Lansing Area
Has anyone ever asked you, if you could pick one food only to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? When I was a kid the answer was always pizza. My answer today is sushi. I could eat sushi for every meal for the rest of my life.
The first time I had sushi was about 25 years ago. I had only been living in Lansing for about a year and a half. I remember being so nervous to try it. Serious anxiety set in before I went to dinner. It was all mental; I was psyching myself out of eating it. I was scared—who eats raw fish? Apparently I had been missing out my whole life.
Here is the definition of "sushi" according to Merriam-Webster:
cold rice dressed with vinegar, formed into any of various shapes, and garnished especially with bits of raw seafood or vegetables
See, sushi isn't about the fish. Read the definition again. Sashimi is what I get hungry for. Sashimi is raw fish, no rice. Just fish. According to Merriam-Webster sashimi is:
a Japanese dish of thinly sliced raw fish
Now that we understand what the definitions are, are you going to try some sushi, a handroll or will you attempt the sashimi? The texture was easy to get used to; salmon, tuna, red snapper and clam are simple, tasty and easy to eat. I am not a fan of the squid sashimi or sea urchin.
