Some of us may find it hard to eat healthy in the winter because we are indoors so much more. Not to mention the pandemic keeping us inside more, and the stress eating I know I do at times.

We do need to remember though eating many heathy foods helps us to maintain a normal weight and reduces our risk of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and some cancers. Those are all things my family have experienced.

Plus it seems like every day we wake up to a new "superfood" that will change your life. With the abundance of information available, how do you know what's actually good for you? Here are the top foods you should be eating according to health.ucdavis.edu.

Here is a list of some we need to put on our shopping list and be eating:

  • Fish
  • Broccoli
  • Beets
  • Spinach and Leafy Green Vegetables
  • Kale
  • Peanut Butter
  • Almonds
  • Mangos
  • Blueberries
  • Quinoa
  • Legumes

Some foods I have been eating more of lately that my doctor told me to add to my diet are avocados, peppers, cucumbers, beans (lentils), and high fiber cereal or oatmeal.

There is an aisle I have to go down right before I check out at my Downtown Lansing Meijer that is filled with candy, a bunch of chocolate covered edibles, and gourmet candy. I am sure that is not an accident on their part  It is tough for me to get down that aisle of fun without adding something to my cart.

What healthy foods do you really enjoy eating?
