A new study has revealed the seven most dangerous cities in Michigan in 2024, and 6 of them are situated within a mile of one particular interstate.

The website PropertyClub says Michigan is the 11th most dangerous state in the U.S., citing statewide increases in both property crime and violent crime between 2021 and 2023. But which cities were the worst offenders?

7. Jackson, Michigan

Jackson, Michigan is ranked 7th-most dangerous in the state, according to PropertyClub. Jackson residents have a 1-in-84 chance of being a victim of a violent crime such as murder or some sort of assault; and a 1-in-31 shot at being a victim of a property crime.

6. Highland Park, Michigan

The northern Detroit suburb of Highland Park is the 6th-most dangerous city in Michigan. Much of the city is run-down, and residents here have a 1-in-23 chance of becoming the victim of some sort of crime, according to PropertyClub.

Albion, Michigan isn't particularly big, but its crime rate is - comparatively speaking. PropertyClub lists Albion's violent crime rate as 196% higher than the national average.

4. Muskegon Heights, Michigan

Not sure you noticed, but up to this point, every city among Michigan's seven most dangerous cities has been situated along I-94. Muskegon Heights, the 4th-most dangerous city in the state, is the outlier. PropertyClub says residents of Muskegon Heights have a 1-in-19 shot at becoming a victim of some sort of crime. Property crimes involving destruction of property and/or home invasions are more common here than in most cities its size.

Oh, and spoiler alert - the 3 most dangerous cities in Michigan? They're all along I-94.

3. Kalamazoo, Michigan

Kalamazoo is Michigan's 3rd-most dangerous city, according to PropertyClub. If you live here, you've got a 1-in-17 chance of becoming the victim of some sort of crime. The city's jobless numbers and higher-than-average poverty rates are partly to blame.

Located along I-94 in far southwestern Michigan, Benton Harbor is the 2nd-most dangerous city in the state. PropertyClub says you've got a 1 out of every 29 people here will become the victim of a violent crime.
