How Michigan's Top Cities for Singles Were Determined

The fine folks at HomeSnacks have been ranking the best cities for singles every year for the past decade.

They consider a variety of criteria, such as:

• population density;
• the city's male-to-female population ratio (the closer to an even 50-50 split, the better);
• the percentage of households that have children;
• the average age of the city's residents;
• and how many unmarried people live there.

After crunching all that data, HomeSnacks assigns each city a "Singles Score". Only cities with populations of at least 10,000 people are considered - in Michigan, that means a total of 89 locales.

Michigan's Top Cities for Singles in 2024

We couldn't help but notice a little bit of a common thread among several of the cities that were identified as Michigan's top cities for singles in 2024.

A good number of the places near the top of the list have colleges or universities in their backyards. The home cities for the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University, and Western Michigan University all made the Top 9 best cities for singles in Michigan - and on the surface, that makes perfect sense, as those cities would be likely to have larger percentages of unmarried residents that are college-age.
