Michigan’s Got 2 of the Top 12 Dirtiest Cities in America
My cousin and I took a road trip years ago and accidentally stumbled upon what we were convinced had to be the dirtiest city in America.
It was lunchtime, and we were ready for a break anyway. We exited the interstate and were shocked at what we saw next.

Trash. Literally everywhere. The amount of litter on the sides of every road was very noticeable - and a strong wind that day blowing it around certainly didn't help.
The pièce de résistance had to dodging a full trash bag right in the middle of my travel lane.
This was Amarillo, Texas.
Imagine my surprise when I saw a recent list of the "Dirtiest Cities in America", and Amarillo was only #61! How could there possibly be 60 dirtier cities?
Ranking the Dirtiest Cities in America
Turns out Lawnstarter looked closer than just the surface, like I was seeing.
They took several factors into consideration when determining the "Dirtiest Cities in America" - things like air quality, overcrowded homes, and the number of landfills and junkyards in each city, among other things.
