I would imagine that when people are traveling via plane, the things they're focused on at the airport are their luggage, passport, and boarding pass.

At least, those are the things I've worried about during the handful of times I've flown on a plane. In fact, I check to make sure I have my passport and boarding pass at least 1,483 times by the time I get on the plane... just to make sure I didn't lose it since I looked 12 seconds ago.

Since we're all busy worried about those things, it's interesting that BetUS has named Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) as one of the top ten airports to "get lucky".

The Top U.S. Airports to "Get Lucky"

Yeah... "getting lucky" at DTW wasn't something I had on my bingo card this year, but here we are.

As far as what "getting lucky" means, I'll leave that for you to decide. But BetUS talks about a meet-cute scenario where you basically bump into a stranger at the airport and things go from there.

How BetUS Measured ‘Romance Potential

How on earth did BetUS determine which U.S. airports where you're most likely to "get lucky", you ask? They looked at the 50 busiest airports in the U.S. and got stats from a few categories:

  • Number of Minute Suites
  • Airport Hotels
  • Number of family bathrooms
  • Long term parking costs per day
  • Number of upscale restaurants
  • Search volume for [airport] Minute Suites

These numbers don’t reflect the reality of people pairing off at the airport. But they do indicate potential.

Out of the "Top Airports in the U.S. Where You're Most Likely to 'Get Lucky'", Detroit comes in at number six.

Why DTW Ranks #6

Detroit has one Minute Suite, 15 family bathrooms, and six VIP lounges, which help give it an edge. However, it costs $20 a day to park long term, which is among the highest in the top ten.

So, if you're looking to "get lucky" at the airport, Detroit Metro isn't too bad. But, you might be better off at Newark Liberty International (5), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (4), Philadelphia International (3), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (2), Denver International (1).
