Grand River Completely Closed in East Lansing Through Summer
If you live in Michigan, you know that we are really feeling it this construction season. Forget spring, summer, or fall. It's orange barrel season.
And it seems that the Greater Lansing area is getting hit particularly hard this construction season. Between surface street and interstates, there are orange barrels everywhere.
Why Grand River Is Closed in East Lansing
One of the newer construction projects in the area is the one that has Grand River Avenue in East Lansing completely shut down.
If you're trying to access certain parts of East Lansing, or trying to make a direct connection from Lansing to Okemos and vice versa, you're going to have to find an alternate route for a while.
Where the Grand River Closure Begins and Ends
The project has Grand River Avenue completely closed in both directions between Bogue Street and Brookfield Plaza near Hagadorn Road. That stretch of Grand River will remain closed for the whole summer because it's required to be completed while Michigan State University students are off on summer break.
During this time, there are detours in place. Northbound and southbound traffic can take Abbot Road or Hagadorn Road, and eastbound and westbound traffic can take Saginaw Street or Haslett Road.

However, despite the fact that there are no students on campus, things remain busy along those detours. If you find yourself needing to drive through East Lansing or campus this summer, be sure to allow some extra time to get where you're going.
The project is all part of a larger plan to upgrade and separate the stormwater and sanitary wastewater.
