Michigan’s Last Smokey Bones Suddenly Closes Without Warning
I have some sad news to share with Lansing foodies and the entire state of Michigan, really.
The Last Smokey Bones in Michigan Is Gone
It's the end of an era: the last Smokey Bones in Michigan has officially closed its doors.
Allegedly, Smokey Bones closed without any warning to its employees. They arrived on Tuesday, April 28, to find the restaurant closed. There was a note taped to the door stating the restaurant was permanently closed.
Already there is an outpouring of support to former Smokey Bones employees, with people dropping the links to the places they work because they're hiring.
Previous Closures Signaled Trouble for the Chain
In September 2025, two of the last three Smokey Bones locations closed—the Grand Rapids and Utica locations. Now, the Lansing location has met the same fate.
The two closures in September 2025 were part of a larger set of closures across the country. The parent company of Smokey Bones, Twin Hospitality Group Inc., announced "it planned to rebrand 19 locations as Twin Peaks restaurants while closing 15 underperforming sites."

At that time, there was no word on the fate of Smokey Bones. However, there was an update in the interim—the Smokey Bones sign was replaced with a newer one from one of the closed locations. So, it made it seem like the location was remaining open as Smokey Bones.

With the closure happening so recently, there's no word on whether the location will be rebranded as a Twin Peaks or if the doors will remain shut.
