Lansing Family Reunited After 40 Years Thanks to TikTok
People make fun of TikTok all of the time and talk about how it's a ridiculous app. I'm not going to lie, I was one of those people for awhile, until I actually gave it a try.
It's a great way to pass the time but you have to be careful because before you know it, you've been scrolling for over an hour. TikTok is a multipurpose platform, it can be used for entertainment, business purposes or in this case, reconnecting with loved ones.
TikTok Reunites Lansing Family After 40 Years
Josie Herrera created a video on TikTok in April searching for four of her siblings and it turns out three of them have been living in the Mid-Michigan area for the last 40 years.
According to WLNS, the search started as a way to honor their mother, Magdalena, who passed away in 2015. Josie originally began searching by submitting DNA to several websites and matched with her sister Maria.
Maria reached out to Josie after finding her post on TikTok. After discovering each other on the app, Maria reached out to their brother Jerry for help tracking down their other sibling, Martin.
About the Herrera's
Years ago, Maria and Jerry were adopted together. Before Maria was adopted by Jerry's adoptive family, she lived in a foster home with their brother, Martin, who was adopted by himself. Philip and Josie were raised by their birth mother.
Five out of six of the siblings have been reunited. However, the siblings are currently searching for their older sister, Janie Lou Salinas, and they need your help. They believe she was adopted through St. Vincent Catholic Services in Lansing in 1970.
