Horrocks Farm Market: Lansing’s Must-See Market

Don’t get me wrong, we have markets like this in my neck-of-the-woods. But compared to my favorite farm type market back home Horrocks is...well, the best way to describe it’s like my favorite farm market on steroids, extra doses of protein powder, and growth hormone.

GOODNESS OVERLOAD

From its roots as a roadside produce stand to 70,000 square feet of deliciousness, Horrocks isn’t just a place to shop, it’s an experience. It was almost sensory overload from my first step inside. My head was on a swivel trying to take everything in all at once. Row upon row of fresh fruit and vegetables, flower arrangements, art and decor, and that was just what I could see from the main entrance. It almost felt like a casino layout, with every turn and corner bringing something else to ogle. And ogle I did.

GOT SOUP?

I was there for soup. My orthodontia had been giving me fits, and I needed hearty sustenance that didn’t need chewing. I heard that Horrocks had soup. I was not prepared for the fact that there are 15 kinds. Nor was I prepared for the fact the salad bar has over 60 toppings to choose from; that the place has its own bar...with 49 rotating taps; or that Horrocks has its own pizza restaurant, garden store, AND music venue!?! Come on!

Kristen was right. Horrocks IS one of the best places to visit in Lansing. I could have spent hours in this place and not have seen everything. Seriously, Lansing, Horrocks Farm Market is a treasure trove. If you haven’t been in a while, go check it out. If you’ve never been—GO! Get soup...or pretty much anything else you can think of. Horrocks probably has it.
