“Ledges? I Barely Found ‘Em: A Grand Ledge Misadventure”
One of the places on the “19 Best Places for Visitors in Lansing” list is in Grand Ledge. It had also been recommended by residents my first week here. I thought I could finally check this one off the list. Alas, I cannot. Why? What I thought was the park with the limestone climbing ledges was, in fact, not. Because: GPS!

In my defense, I didn’t really know what I was looking for. I knew that the ledges in question were in Grand Ledge (duh!). Had I remembered that the 19 Best Places article had a link to the proper location, I could have just plugged those directions into my phone. But alas! I forgot to do that. What I did do was type in, “Grand Ledge, ledges park.”

Where was I supposed to be? Fitzgerald Park, which according to the map is a 1.6-mile walk down the way from where I had parked. Now, had this not been a solo adventure or maybe if I had called the people I knew in the area (my son-in-law, for example, who has lived here his entire life) and asked, “Y’all know where I’m trying to get to?” I would have been steered in the right direction. But as I was walking a trail by a river, with a few ledges, I assumed…and you know what they say about that, right?

Needless to say, the West Trailhead has amazingly breathtaking views. The trails are well-marked, and it is so beautiful. If you have never been to that part of the area, I’d put it on the list. We’ll call it “The Lesser Ledges.”
