After extending the "Stay Home Stay Safe" order, people were not happy about added restrictions but Gov. Whitmer stands by her decision.

According to MLive, Whitmer is defending the order that many legislators, small businesses, and people in the general republic disagree with and said she is prioritizing Michigan’s “health and safety.”

Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R-Clark Lake) shared his disagreement in a public Facebook post on Friday.

Shirkey was not alone in his opinion as House Speaker Chatfield (R-Levering) also raised questions about Whitmer’s decision(s) on what businesses were essential versus nonessential.

Gardeners, farmers and greenhouse growers also voiced their concerns with being deemed non-essential at this time and how it would effect their business in the long run.

Rounding out the list of those who have vocalized their issues with the added restrictions are those who feel boating should be allowed under the order.

A petition to allow motorized boating currently has over 35,000 signatures.

Governor Whitmer's office, in a statement to MLive, defended the action(s).

"Protecting the health and safety of the people of Michigan remains the governor’s number one priority. She has worked closely with Speaker (Lee) Chatfield and Sen. Shirkey throughout this emergency, and will continue to do so," they said. "We welcome constructive participation from the legislature, but the priority must be on taking actions to slow the spread of this virus and keep Michiganders safe.”

According to Whitmer, on Thursday, making exceptions to this order will have lasting effects on the economy and added, "“Every single exception to the Stay Home, Stay Safe order makes this more porous and less likely to work."
