A traditional staple for summer in Jackson is the latest event to be cancelled due to the coronavirus.

According to MLive, the festival was supposed to happen July 23-26 at Jackson's Ella Sharp Park.

For what it's worth, I am actually extremely sad to see this event be cancelled for this year.

The past few summers I had been living in Grand Rapids, working nonstop either at a grocery store, at another radio station or my retail job and did not have time to make it back home to Jackson in time for the festival.

Now, this summer I really wanted to make sure and get out in Jackson and get back to traditions I loved as a kid.

My family and I had many amazing memories at the festival and for some reason, I was always fascinated with the Remax balloon and the Post teddy bear balloon!

Though MLive, citing a news release from the event's vice chairman Jeff Knapp, says the jubilee will be returning July 22-25, 2021.

As the state of big events this summer is pretty up-in-the-air (pun intended) in terms of coronavirus, Knapp also said sponsors, pilots, vendors and other partners of the festival needed commitments the festival organizers just could not make.

While I know I am pretty bummed the festival will not be happening at all this year, the safety of the people attending is most important in the end.

It is definitely going to be a weird summer and as one of my favorite comedians, Tim Dillon, said on his podcast, it looks like it will be the summer of the backyard barbecue!
