Food Truck Pilot Program in Lansing Taking Applications

I love eating from food trucks. When I was living in Tampa there were some amazing taco trucks. The best I ever had were in Oahu, Hawaii. I was there a week, and most of our meals were at food trucks. It was so amazing tasting food from that area.  Food trucks are fun, fast, and a great way to sample all different types of food. There are some great ones here in the Lansing area as well.

Here is a question for you, have you ever thought of owning a food truck and going into business for yourself?  Well check this out. On Friday, Delhi Township announced it is accepting applications to a for a pilot food truck program  This will let food trucks do business in the Township. A total of 5 food trucks will be given permission to open in the pilot program area, this from wilx.com.

This pilot program is the result of thorough discussion among Township Board members and is intended to provide a snapshot of the program’s viability, gauge interest from food truck owners and residents, and will help us to determine impacts to brick-and-mortar restaurants” said Delhi Township Manager Tracy Miller. We encourage food truck owners interested in participating to fill out and submit an application as soon as possible.

You may thinking, well how much can I make?  Mashed.com says food trucks in big cities can make $20,000 to $50,000 in sales each month. Wow, that is a a lot of money, but I am sure it is also a lot of work. Food Trucks in smaller, mid size cities are more likely to make around $5,000 to $16,000 a month. I really think it depends on how good the food is, and will your menu stand out to other food choices in the area.

Applications are available at delhitownshipmi.com and are on a first come, first serve basis. If you are accepted, you have to pay a $350 fee before the permit is issued.
