End of an Era: Coral Gables Announces Closure in East Lansing
It's inevitable that we will see businesses open and close in Lansing. However, it is particularly devastating to see such a beloved business close after being a part of the community for so long.
Unfortunately, that's what's happening with the closure of Coral Gables.
The History of Coral Gables in East Lansing
After a century on East Grand River Avenue and nearly 60 years under the same family's ownership, Coral Gables is preparing to close its doors. Sadly, Coral Gables announced its closure in a Facebook post today (June 2, 2026).
While no mention was made as to why Coral Gables is closing, the Facebook post did say that it was a "difficult decision to close". The family also gave a very warm and heartfelt goodbye in the post, saying,
To all who have considered The Gables their home away from home—a place for family gatherings, meetings, celebrations, or simply a familiar spot to find friends—we extend our deepest gratitude for your loyalty and support. Serving you has been an honor, and we will sincerely miss the daily connections that have meant so much to us.
And it's clear from the overwhelming and immediate response to the closure that Coral Gables will be loved and missed, just as much as the owners will miss the community.
When is Coral Gables Closing?
If you would like to visit this beloved and historic piece of East Lansing, Coral Gables' final day of operation will be Tuesday, June 30. So, make plans to visit them before then. You can see the full announcement in the post below.
