Will the Detroit Lions’ Draft Picks Pan Out?
The 2021 NFL Draft finally concluded over the weekend. I wanted to wait until the smoke cleared to comment on it.
The Detroit Lions in their first draft with the new regime did pretty well. The Lions' first-year GM Brad Holmes captained the ship. He has solid experience with his tenure in Los Angeles with the Rams, and his scouting proved to be very beneficial.
Don’t kid yourself, the Lions had a ton of needs. But they did address most of them.
Lions First Round Pick
In the first round, they drafted the best O-lineman in the draft: Oregon’s OT Penei Sewell. He’s big, mean and nasty. He will be a solid addition and starter right away.
Lions Second and Third Round Picks
In the second round, they went defense and drafted DT Levi Onwuzike. In the third round another DT Alim McNeil and also in the third round CB Ifeatu Melifonwu.
Lions Fourth and Seventh Round Picks
In the fourth round the Lions got WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. Also in the fourth the Lions drafted LB Derrick Barnes. In the seventh round the Lions drafted RB Jermar Jefferson.
How Did the Lions Do?
A lot of the draft experts gave the Detroit Lions a grade of a B+. I would totally agree with that. But I always say that until these players get acclimated with the NFL, you can’t truly evaluate them.
The question is, will these picks pan out? I guess we'll see sooner or later. The Detroit Lions have to be competitive this season.
