Not since Super Bowl XL has Detroit felt that anticipated NFL hype, but they’re feeling it now. The NFL draft could possibly be coming to Detroit.

According to multiple reports, Detroit is one of three finalists to host the 2024 NFL Draft. Apparently, the word got out Monday when Green Bay Packers President Mark Murphy, who told reporters Monday, February 28th, when talking to reporters. Detroit Lions president Rod Wood also stated that Detroit is  "in the mix" to host the 2024 NFL draft as well, and further clarified that the city is a "serious contender".

Who Is In the Running to Host the 2024 NFL Draft?

As of now, the Detroit Lions are sharing the race to host the mega NFL event with two other stronger contenders. Detroit is joined on the shortlist with Green Bay and Washington D.C. The next two years of the popular fan event are being held in Las Vegas (2022), and Kansas City (2023).

For years Detroit Lions President Wood has pushed and rallied for the NFL to bring the yearly draft event to the Motor City. Last March Wood commented on the ongoing campaign saying,

“Hopefully we can bring that to Detroit and by then everything is fully reopened (from the pandemic) and we can have hundreds of thousands of people downtown enjoying the Draft in Detroit. Look forward to continuing to try and win that kind of thing for the city and for the team as well.”

Wood has also commented on thoughts for where the draft would be held if Detroit is the host city, with an idea being hosting it both at Ford Field and the Fox Theater according to Pride of Detroit.

The NFL owners are expected to choose the site of the 2024 draft at a league meeting in late March.
