The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has a web page featuring all the correct pronunciations of words as developed by the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons. Makes sense - with all the audio books and services offered now.

It's a long list, which takes you from the late singer and actress Aaliyah, who was from Detroit, to the city of Zilwaukee. It provides the written pronunciation and a link to an audio file to hear what it's supposed to sound like.

For grammar sticklers, speaking of Detroit, the guide offers both pronunciations of Detroit - (go ahead - click on the highlighted link and see how it works):

Detroit (1) (DĒ-troit)

Detroit (2) (də-TROIT)

And, finally, the correct way to say Gogebic (gō-GĒ-bik)
