After successfully branching into Michigan with a location in East Lansing in 2022, the Raising Cane's chicken chain is expanding further across the state.

Raising Cane's, known for its fried chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast and house-made dipping sauces, currently has more than 800 locations nationwide.

Its exponential growth over the past several years has made Raising Cane's the third-largest chicken restaurant in America, recently surpassing KFC. Only Chick-Fil-A and Popeyes have more locations nationwide.

From One to Many: Raising Cane’s Michigan Expansion

A second Michigan location opened in Canton in February 2025, and another is poised to open by year's end in Ann Arbor. More locations are in the planning stages for Portage, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Mount Pleasant, Saginaw and the Metro Detroit areas.

Like most places, Raising Cane's has people who swear by it, and people who wouldn't go even if it were free.

Raising Cane's is spectacular. I will put Cane's Sauce on everything and anything. The chicken is ... crisp and juicy. The french fries? Immaculate. And the toast??? Buttered by the Lord himself.

Then there are those like Reddit user zipadyduda who just don't get all the fuss.

The fingers were bland, fresh, and not greasy, not bad - but nothing special at all. As far as I can tell, the only reason they exist is because the marketing and design is spot on for the young crowd that gathers there.

Like 'em or not, look for more and more Raising Cane's restaurants to pop up across the Mitten State in the coming years.
