There is no question in my mind that Vin Scully is the finest baseball play by play announcer out there. And that's been my opinion since I was a 9 year old kid, living in Los Angeles. I still remember listening to him call the L.A. Dodgers' games, on my transistor radio, under the covers, when I was supposed to be asleep. Mr. Scully is now 88 years old. He's been calling Dodgers games for 65 years. He will announce one final year of Dodgers games and then retire. He's a large part of why I grew up thinking being on the radio would be a fun job.

Joe Davis, is 60 years younger at 28. Joe grew up in Charlotte and Potterville. He played football and baseball at Potterville and played college football at Beloit College in Wisconsin. And even though he's only 28, he's been announcing games on ESPN and Fox for the last four years. According to the Lansing State Journal, last month Joe signed a contract to do play by play for the L.A. Dodgers. Next year, he'll start the transition to take the reins from Vin Scully.

I'm sad to see Vin Scully retire. But I'm glad Joe is getting a well deserved shot at one of the greatest jobs in broadcasting. If you see him around here during the holidays, shake his hand for me. And tell him to say "hi", and thanks to Vin, for me.
