Michigan Won’t Have Its Favorite Valentine’s Candy This Year
Valentine's Day is always full of love and sweets. Sadly for everyone in who lives in Michigan, Sweethearts will be missing from the shelves this year, as the company that makes the candy, the New England Confectionary Co., has gone out of business. Candystore.com has listed the conversation heart candies as the most popular candy in the state for the holiday, earning $1.8 billion in sales. Sales of the candy are expected to drop 80% this year, which contributed to the company shutting down.
There is a glimmer of hope though according to Kirk Vashaw, the CEO of Spangler Candy Co. He told the candy website they are not gone for good, stating: "We are looking forward to announcing the relaunch of Sweethearts for the 2020 Valentine's Day season." Lucky they will return, but for this year you'll have to pay a decent amount for them. Freep reports that Amazon is selling boxes starting at $9, and on eBay, an eight-pack box of candies is selling for $12.
