WalletHub compared all 50 states to determine which states were the best to live in if you're a millennial.

If you don't know whether or not you fall in the millennial category, you have to be born between the years 1981-1996.

How it was determined what states were the best to live in

WalletHub compared what states have the highest percentage of millennials, housing costs, affordability, average earnings, home ownership, and quality of life.

Here's WalletHub's top 5:

  1. Washington
  2. District of Columbia
  3. Utah
  4. Massachusetts
  5. Iowa

I'm not going to lie, this confused me a bit, as the District of Columbia isn't actually a state and this is based off of states. But hey, I didn't do the research and come up with the data.

Where did Michigan rank?

Michigan came in at number 18 with a score of 55.85 out of 100. So, we didn't do all that bad.

Ya know, a lot of people complain about living in Michigan but it's a beautiful state. Sure, we have colder weather and winters can be gray, but I don't know that I really want to live somewhere that's bright and sunny 24/7.

Some people may think I'm crazy for that, but let me explain why.

I lived in Florida for half of a year. Yeah, I got to "enjoy" warm weather a majority of the time, but not during the summer months. It was way too hot to be outside. Do you enjoy taking three showers a day? I don't.

How about on days where you're exhausted and you need some me time and want to relax? This could just be me, but on nice days, I need to be outside and taking advantage of it.

Maybe that's because our warm days are limited to a couple months in Michigan.

So, I always feel like I always have to be moving or doing something when it's nice out. Which made it hard to relax and take a break when I needed it.

Here are just a few of the best places to visit in Michigan!
