Michigan WIC Benefits Can Now Be Used Online at Meijer
Michigan families who use WIC benefits now have another way to get groceries without having to shop inside a store.
WIC Benefits Now Accepted Online at Meijer
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday that WIC participants can now use their benefits while shopping online at Meijer.
Pickup and Delivery Available Across Michigan
The new option is available at all 122 Meijer locations across Michigan. Families can place an order through Meijer and choose either curbside pickup or home delivery, depending on what is available in the area.
How Online WIC Checkout Works
WIC benefits can be used to pay for approved food items during the online checkout process. Customers can also add products that are not covered by WIC and pay for those items separately using another form of payment. Those purchases can be included as part of the same transaction.
Meijer is the first retailer in Michigan to offer online shopping using WIC benefits.
Company officials said the change is meant to make it easier for families to purchase healthy, everyday foods, especially for those who may have trouble getting to a store or shopping in person.
Who Michigan’s WIC Program Serves
The Michigan WIC program currently serves more than 187,000 women, infants and children each month.
The program provides eligible families with access to healthy foods, along with nutrition education, counseling and breastfeeding support. WIC can also connect participants with other programs and resources that may be available to them.
Why the Change Matters for Michigan Families
The addition of online shopping gives families more flexibility in how they use their benefits and could be especially helpful for parents managing busy schedules, transportation issues or young children.
The expansion gives participants another way to shop from home while using the WIC benefits available to their families.
