There is definitely something magical about winter time of year in Michigan!

One spot here in the Mitten State is in the running for the best destination for snow in the country in a USA Today 10best readers' poll.

It took the top spot last year - can it do it again? This location was also recently voted the number one spot to see fall colors in the U.S.

Twenty destinations were picked by experts as best places in the country for snow because they offer lots of winter activities, gorgeous snow globe landscapes, and, of course, plenty of snow! It's now up to a public vote to determine the top ten.

The Michigan winter wonderland competing for best destination for snow in America is the Upper Peninsula.

Gorgeous at all times of year, Michigan's U.P. is particularly stunning in the winter. Cold weather activities like skiing, snowboarding, fat-tire biking, and snowshoeing abound. In fact, two U.P. ski resorts are currently competing for the best in the country. 

In particular, USA Today highlights Sault Ste. Marie and Marquette as excellent winter getaways.

As Travel Marquette says, "In the U.P. we don't just face winter, we embrace it!" Each winter, Marquette hosts activities like ice racing, holiday markets, ski jumping tournaments, and the Meijer Winter State Games.
