Because my 1979 Camaro - the first car I bought with my own money, was blue. And, according to the Business Insider, the color "blue", or at least the word for "blue", is a very recent thing. Not that the color didn't exist since time began - but other colors were much more common in the everyday ancient world. And ancient writings prove the point.

This discussion seems to have come up in the last week as a response to the, "what color is this dress?" question, that almost melted down Facebook.

Scientists say that the color blue was known in Egypt some 4500 years ago, but only because they had invented a blue dye. Other than that, all cultures came up with words for black and white - probably because of night and day, and then they found a word for red - the color of blood and wine. And the last word for a color the ancients came up with was "blue". Most languages lumped "blue" in with shades of "green". But how many blue objects do you find in nature? And the sky doesn't count, because it's not always blue. Take a look outside today (Tuesday).
