Huge Disagreement on Pre-Christmas Snow Forecast for Mid-Michigan
How much snow are we going to get?
Depends on who you ask. You're likely to get responses that vary wildly.
Accuweather.com and the National Weather Service are both generally trusted sources when it comes to forecasting Mid-Michigan weather, but they are very far apart when it comes to forecasting the winter storm that's bearing down on us as we approach Christmas 2022.
All week long, Accuweather has been projecting snowfall accumulations of at least half a foot for all of Mid-Michigan, with as much as 18" in some isolated areas. The National Weather Service has been much more conservative in its expectations - believing most of us are likely to see this storm begin with a cold rain before changing over to all snow, thus keeping snowfall accumulations down.
Of course, time will tell which forecaster - if either of them - was right.
The chart below shows the variance between the two forecasters, town-by-town.
