The EF-1 tornado that struck Eaton County last week may have taken out some buildings at Hidden Creek Farms in Charlotte, but it did nothing to hamper the owners' spirits.

From Family Home to Beloved Venue

Adam Auvenshine grew up on this 100-acre farm in Charlotte. Over the past several years, he and his wife Haley have gradually turned what used to be Adam's childhood home and surrounding land into Hidden Creek Farms - a beloved local venue for weddings, proms and a variety of other events.

Sheltering From the Storm

As severe weather approached the night of May 15, the Auvenshines gathered their children in the basement of the property's 8-bedroom farmhouse - listed these days on Airbnb as the "Hidden Creek Farmstead". The tornado largely spared the farmhouse, but decimated its historic barn just feet away. The house on the property that the Auvenshines call home was also heavily damaged, along with a few other buildings.

The event barn was left intact by the storm, although some minor repairs may be required as the full extent of damage to the farm becomes more clear, according to Adam.

Despite a now uninhabitable home and destruction in nearly every direction, the family says they have so much to be thankful for.

Community Steps In

"This community has been nothing short of amazing," Adam says. "People from all over have been out to help - clearing debris, offering meals, even moral support." He adds that against all odds, one of the goats that had been inside the collapsed barn was discovered alive on Tuesday, 5 days after the twister hit.

Events Will Go On

With the help of family, friends and even strangers, the Auvenshines are determined to keep as many pre-scheduled events as possible at Hidden Creek Farms on the calendar.

Adam pledges the "WITL Night Out" scheduled June 18 at Hidden Creek Farms with Nashville up-and-comers Chase McDaniel, Greylan James and Keegan Jacko will go on as scheduled.
