Very soon you may see several helicopters in the sky doing their job as they focus on damaged equipment and more.

And yes, many of these helicopters will be flying low to do most of their inspections.

According to mlive.com:

Michigan based electricity transmission company ITC Michigan will be inspecting its high voltage transmission structures and lines from May 17 to June 17, according to a news release from the company.  That means the helicopters will be flying low, near the lines.

Even though I think this will be a safe procedure, you can't help but think, could this be a bad thing if one of the helicopters gets too close to a power line?

I'm sure they have everything planned and ready to go beginning May 17 and ending sometime around June 17.

Mlive.com also adds:

Crews are watching for damaged or worn equipment and any vegetation that creates a hazard.  They'll inspect steel towers, wood poles, wires, insulators and more during these flights, the release said.

You're probably wondering how many miles of lines helicopters will be inspecting in Michigan?  We can tell you there are over 8,000 miles of lines to inspect.

Here's an example of several counties that will have helicopter inspections courtesy of mlive.com:

May 28-June 4: Clinton, Genesee, Gratiot, Huron, Ingham, Lapeer. Livingston, Macomb, Midland, Oakland, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clair and Tuscola counties.

As long as the weather cooperates, helicopters should be up and running very soon to get the job done.

I've always been a big fan of helicopters ever since I was a kid.  I find them very fascinating and would love to learn how to fly one some day, or maybe just take a ride in one.
