Health Scare Cancels LCC Classes In Building
In what is being executed from an abundance of caution, Lansing Community College has closed the Health and Human Services Building and has cancelled classes due to an employee there being diagnosed with Legionnaire’s Disease.
According to News 10, Lansing Community College's president Brent Knight stated in a press release that the building will remain closed until LCC is confident that there will be no risk to the community.
While at the moment it isn't known where the employee in question got infected with Legionnaire’s, the college and local health departments are working closely together.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website says this about Legionnaire’s Disease:
Legionnaires’ (LEE-juh-nares) disease is a serious type of pneumonia (lung infection) caused by Legionella (LEE-juh-nell-a) bacteria. People can get sick when they breathe in mist or accidently swallow water into the lungs containing Legionella.
