GM’s Bringing Back the Hummer – And This Time – It’s Electric!
The Hummer. The SUV inspired by Humvees patrolling the streets of Mogadishu and Afghanistan and then went on to be Arnold Schwarzenegger's ride - is making a return.
According to CBC (the Canadians were all over this), this May, GM, under the GMC brand, will roll out an ELECTRIC, pickup-version of the Hummer. Back in the day those things got, what? About 10 or 11 miles to the gallon? Sources say the new hummer won't look much like the original, but it will put out 1000 horsepower and go from zero to sixty in three seconds! It will be built here in Michigan, at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant that's being retooled to build electric vehicles. The new Hummers won't be coming off the production line until 2022, with an SUV version coming in 2023. LeBron James, who had a Hummer when he came up to the NBA, will be on a Hummer TV spot you'll see during the Super Bowl this Sunday night.
No word on how much one of these will cost, but seriously - this is the first time I've been really interested in electric vehicles.
Detroit - you read me like a book. Nicely done.
