Feeling Like Taking a Swim in Lake Michigan?
Yes, it's officially summer here in Michigan - one of the most beautiful places in the world to spend the summer. And when it comes to swimming in Lake Michigan, just like your mom after you had lunch - the National Weather Service thinks you should wait. And not just an hour.
According to Fox17Online, the National Weather Service says the water temperature in Lake Michigan is too cold to swim in. The water temperature at Muskegon right now is 54 degrees. The peak temperatures for Lake Michigan are usually reached in August, when Lake Michigan's temperature near the surface is about 70. Last year, the average temperature for Lake Michigan was much warmer - near 75 in August.
I've been in Lake Michigan at Petoskey State Park in August. Didn't bother my kids, but it seemed a lot colder than that.
And Lake Superior? Well, you're nuts if your swimming up there right now.
