REVIEW: The New Sunday Breakfast Buffet at Buddies Pub & Grill
While the Lansing area has no shortage of restaurants serving up breakfast, those in search of a good breakfast buffet haven't had a lot of options recently.
That's why I was excited to hear that the 3 locations of Buddies Pub & Grill around Lansing would be launching a Sunday breakfast buffet. (The Holt location began its Sunday breakfast buffet the first weekend of December, with the Okemos location following suit the next weekend. A target date for Buddies' Lake Lansing Road location has yet to be announced.)
I excitedly made my way to Buddies Pub & Grill in Okemos for breakfast on their first weekend of the Sunday breakfast buffet, and was mostly impressed.

If you've been to any Buddies location, you know that the space is pretty laidback. That's still the case.
The Okemos buffet is comprised of several roll-top chafing dishes on tables along one wall, kept warm by canned heat. Customers can go down either side of the table, and fill their plates with a variety of traditional breakfast favorites including scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, biscuits and gravy, waffles, fruit and more.
Everything I tried had a great flavor. The scrambled eggs were blended with fresh cheese and ham. There was a variety in the doneness of the bacon, designed to suit a range of palates. I especially liked that the southwestern potatoes were made with melted, grated cheese instead of some sort of cheese sauce.
Quartered waffles were available pre-made, but you could make your own toast. There was an ample selection of fresh fruit. Whatever blueberry crumble breakfast dessert Buddies Pub & Grill had up there may be my new favorite sweet of all time.

I realize I visited on the Okemos' location's first day serving the Sunday breakfast buffet - and that tamps down the only minor complaint I had: the food in the chafing dishes wasn't quite warm enough. I'll definitely be returning. The service was top notch, and I was particularly impressed by the efforts of staff to keep the buffet clean and well-stocked while I was there.
The Buddies Sunday breakfast buffet runs $16 for adults, $13 for seniors, and a dollar per year for kids.
