That's the question that WalletHub asked and answered; Which are the best and worst states to raise a family? WalletHub compared all 50 states across multiple indicators to determine which states were the most family-friendly. Those indicators include;

  • Family Fun Rank - How many families had young children, the number of "family-friendly" attractions nearby, and how many children live in neighborhoods with a park or playground
  • Health & Safety Rank - how many children have health insurance vs. those that don't, the infant mortality rate, violent crimes per capita
  • Education & Child Care Rank - the quality of public schools, graduation rate, child care quality and costs
  • Affordability Rank - housing affordability, paid family leave, median annual family income
  • Socio-economics Rank - the separation/divorce rate, the share of families living in poverty, unemployment rank

WalletHub analyzed the data and gave a ranking to each of the 50 states. And despite the fact that I absolutely adored growing up in Michigan, it turns out it might not be the best state in which to raise a family.
