South of Minneapolis, in Apple Valley, is the Minnesota Zoo. At the zoo, three grizzly bears live in an enclosure viewed through floor to ceiling glass panes. On Monday, according to the StarTribune, while "startled visitors" watched, one of the bears picked up a basketball sized rock and started smashing one of the glass panes. He didn't get through the glass pane, but it wasn't 'cuz he wasn't trying. Zoo animal collections manager Tony Fisher said, “He didn’t know what he was doing. He was just being a bear.”

Michigan does NOT have any wild grizzly bears. But we do have a growing population of black bears. And they're popping up in some of the larger southern peninsula towns with more frequency. And now that bears have obviously learned how to use tools.....Sleep tight.
