Bad News About This Year’s Flu Shots
So, there's some bad news about the flu shot you got...it's apparently not working. According to USA Today, the flu vaccine this year is only 23% effective. Usually flu shots prevent 60-65% of infections serious enough for people to see a doctor but unfortunately, not this year. Even with the bad numbers, the CDC is still recommending that people get flu shots because even a less effective vaccine, they say, can still prevent thousands of hospitalizations, especially among seniors.
And this can't be repeated enough: to help reduce the spread of influenza please remember to wash your hands, cover your coughs and...STAY HOME WHEN YOU'RE SICK! (I'm looking at you lady at the Meijer in Okemos yesterday that had the worst cough I've ever heard...) Ugh.
