Around Lansing This Weekend: Gizzards, Beer, Free Fishing & More
If you're looking for something to do this weekend, the Lansing area has quite a bit to offer!
Here's what happening for the weekend of June 8-11, 2023.
Gizzard Fest
Potterville's annual Gizzard Fest is something thousands look forward to every year. It's not just your typical local festival with a parade, carnival rides, and live entertainment - although it has all those things too. Where else are you going to enjoy (or watch) a gizzard eating contest or a Gizzard Fest pageant? Gizzard Fest is underway Thursday (6/8) through Saturday (6/10).
Free ORV Weekend
It's a Free ORV Weekend in Michigan! This opportunity only comes around twice a year. This Saturday (6/10) and Sunday (6/11), try out some of Michigan’s 4,000 miles of off-road vehicle trails and routes or enjoy the state’s six scramble areas without an ORV license or trail permit. The popular Holly Oaks ORV Park is even waiving its usual entrance free for the weekend.
Free Fishing Weekend
This weekend (6/10 and 6/11) is also Free Fishing Weekend in Michigan. You don't need a fishing license to go out and fish any of the state's inland waters or on any of the Great Lakes. Keep in mind that size limits, quantity limits, and all other fishing regulations are still in effect.
Flint Art Fair
If you're up for a short drive, take in the Flint Art Fair this Saturday (6/10) and Sunday (6/11). It's happening on the front lawn of the Flint Institute of Arts on E. Kearsley St. in Flint. "Juried to ensure the highest caliber of artists, the event introduces original works from as many as 175 established and emerging artists from Michigan and beyond in various genres including ceramics, glass, painting, jewelry, fiber, metal, mixed media, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and wood."
Lansing Beer Fest
Head to Lansing's REO Town on Saturday (6/10) from 3pm to 8pm for the 9th Annual Lansing Beer Fest! More than twenty Michigan breweries will be on-site, offering samples of more than 100 craft beers, ciders, mixed drinks and more. Festival-goers will be able to enjoy food trucks, live music, and a variety of vendors as well.
Michigan Mile
Organizers refer to it as "Michigan's favorite one mile fun run just for kids"! Sunday (6/11) at 9am, kids 12 and under are invited to participate in the Michigan Mile at Lansing's Jackson Field. Kids 6 and under are eligible to run the shorter "KIDSPRINT" distance.
