3 Outstanding Michigan Cities Rank in the 100 Best Places to Live in America List
Lately, I feel like we've heard a lot about the crummy aspects of living in Michigan.
Like the fact that Michigan has two of the rattiest cities in America. Or the fact that Michigan is home to one of the most stressed cities in America.
Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S.
However, we're going to move past those negatives and focus on the positives, because we've got three reasons to see on the bright side...
Michigan has three cities ranking in the top 100 when it comes to the best places to live in America!
How do we know this awesome fact? Thanks to Livability. Livability is a publication known for its monthly and yearly lists, "defining the best places to live in America", and they just released their 10th annual "Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S." list.
How are the Best Cities in America Chosen?
In order to determine the cream of the crop, Livability teamed up with Applied Geographic Solutions to come up with a multitude of data points used for consideration.
Here are the eight categories they used to measure the data points, along with a couple of factors that were used in the decision-making process:
- Economy
- Housing & Cost of Living
- Amenities
- Transportation
- Environment
- Safety
- Education
- Health
- Only cities with populations between 75,000 and 500,000 were considered
- Only cities with a median home value of $500,000 or less were considered
With those factors and data points in mind, here's where Michigan cities landed on the list...
3 Michigan Cities are Among the Top 100 Best Places to Live in America
Michigan had three cities make the list, holding down the number 10, 20, and 65 spots
#65 - Ann Arbor, Michigan
Of course, Ann Arbor got some points for having the University of Michigan, which is one of the top universities in the country. They also have a plethora of creative amenities going on at any given time, like arts & crafts fairs, concerts, theater performances, and more. Outdoor activities also helped Ann Arbor's rating.
#20 - Rochester Hills, Michigan
The city of Rochester Hills boasts a low crime rate, great schools, and plenty of amenities like concerts, golf, parks, a museum, a cider mill, and shopping.
#10 - Troy, Michigan
Troy did great across multiple categories, including good schools, safe neighborhoods, a low tax and unemployment rate, and plenty of outdoor activities and shopping.
