Confirmed sightings (the DNR confirmed it) of a young, wild, bull elk are reported from near Beal City, just to the northwest of Mt. Pleasant, MI. So, it's not in our backyard. Yet. But, according to MLive.com, this elk is about 100 miles south of the normal range for the Michigan elk herd.

If you're out hunting and see him, send me (and the DNR) a photo. And contact the DNR  at 231-775-9727 (extension 6032) or by emailing keenk1@michigan.gov.

'Cuz the DNR is worried sick about him. He's never run away for this long before.
