When you're at the register about to pay for your stuff and this number comes up, what do you do?

Let it stand or grab a pack of gum to make the price anything but triple sixes.

$6.66. Or any combination thereof.

I know somebody just got weirded out.

This is the part where Stevie Wonder sings...

When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way

(Stevie Wonder, Superstition - 1972)

This whole story stems from a visit to Speedway. The total ended up being $6.66 and both the cashier and customer started scrambling for something to 'fix that evil number".

How many times have you been in line and it's happened to you or the person in front of you? The total comes to some weird combination of $6.66, $16.66, or $166.60.

You gotta make a decision. And quick. There's a line behind you.

Do you start looking around for something to buy to offset the price? Do you roll with the punches and just shake off the bad juju that everyone thinks is "Satan's Favorite Price"?

Try as they might, a lot of folks can't just let it go.

It's biblical and some folks just think it's bad luck.

Triple sixes is of course straight out of the book of Revelations.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is [a]six hundred and sixty-six. (Bible Gateway)

And it just gives folks the creeps whenever it shows up. Anywhere.

Phone numbers. License plates. Badge ID numbers.

But especially the register.

Those of such persuasion will, as a matter of course, spurn (or at least think twice about) transactions that would require them to handle sums of money totaling $6.66.

Consequently, some people are reluctant (even extremely so) to handle sums of $6.66, either as amounts they’re disbursing or as change being received (e.g., the residue of a $20 bill used to pay for purchases totaling $13.34, or a $10 bill used to buy an item costing $3.34). (snopes)

So are you superstitious or nah? If your total is the triple sixes, what do you do?
