Last Thursday, Matthew McConaughey was in Michigan. In prison. Visiting one of the inmates. According to MLive.com, McConaughey was visiting a guy named Richard Wershe Jr. in the Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee, as part of his preparation to play Richard's dad in a movie titled "White Boy Rick", which is scheduled to be released next January.

Richard (Rick) was an FBI informant in Detroit in the 80s starting when he was 14, but he got caught with 17 pounds of cocaine when he was 17 years old and was sentenced - just for that - to life in prison. Even after he was sentenced he helped the FBI catch a bunch of corrupt Detroit cops. Law enforcement contends that, at the time, Rick was one of the biggest drug dealers in Detroit. Rick says he only made one trip to transport drugs to Miami after he was dropped as an informant. He says he's still in prison because there's still a lot of animosity over the people in power that he helped bring down. There's already been one documentary film done about his case.

Interesting story. I'm looking forward to the feature movie.
