Michigan and California are locked in battle. Which state will be chosen to test all those new robot cars? California has a test site called  "GoMentum Station" (this is where Homer Simpson mutters, "stupid name"), where munitions were stored underground during World War II. Michigan has the old World War II era Willow Run factory site near Ypsilanti. Both offer a lot of obstacles to robots trying to learn how to deal with real world driving situations.

Up for grabs? According to Bloomberg Business, $4 billion in federal funds proposed for development of self-driving cars.

Michigan's secret weapon over California? Potholes. Lots and lots of potholes.

How ya gonna handle those Robot Car?
