Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan is getting to be THE place to be to get up close and personal with Mother Nature. And not in a good way.

First they had a problem with wild turkeys on the campus.

Then they had to figure out what to do with their deer overpopulation problem.

Now, for the second time in the last 15 months, somebody has been bitten by an Eastern Massasauga rattlesnake at the U of M botanical gardens. Last June a young girl was bitten there by one of the rattlesnakes. She was treated at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and released. And yesterday afternoon, according to the Detroit News, a 47 year old woman from Plymouth, MI was bitten at the gardens. In both cases, the victims were not wearing shoes and both were bitten right above the ankle. Yesterday's victim was taken to the U of M hospital in "unstable condition" and there's been no update on her condition today.

And here's something to remember: the last time they counted, in 2011, the University of Michigan’s Matthaei Botanical Gardens had 27 Eastern Massasauga rattlesnakes living somewhere on the grounds.

Just last month, a family in Hillsdale County caught one of these things in their garage.
