Want to Visit The U.P. – But That Big Bridge Scares You?
Everybody - especially EVERY Michigander should visit the Upper Peninsula at least once. If for no other reason than to get me off your back when I say EVERY Michigander should go there. I get it - it's a drive. (It's about 3 and a half hours away - I'm allowing ONE bathroom break near Gaylord) And then, there's the bridge. Yeah, if you're a little freaked out by the bridge, you could go through Chicago and Wisconsin and get there in about 9 and a half hours - but, you know...Chicago traffic....six extra hours. Your choice.
We may have a solution. According to MLive.com, the Mackinac Bridge Authority will drive you over the bridge, in YOUR car, while you enjoy the view - or cower on the floor in the back seat or trunk. Your choice.
All you have to do is call 906-643-7600 and tell them you need a driver. Ned McLennan, from the Mackinac Bridge Authority, says some people just want to get across and some people request that their drivers drive in the left lane - away from the edge of the bridge. Which puts you right over the metal grating, so you you can straight down to the water.
Again - your choice. You're gonna love Tahquamenon Falls.
