Yesterday, we reported on the exciting news that Michigan was going after a new Guinness World Record. Today, we're proud to update you with the news that you, in fact, DO live in the the home of the World's Largest Ball of Dryer Lint. The Guinness World Record was set this afternoon, in Farmington Hills.

According to our correspondents at MLive.com, Dryer Vent Wizard of Farmington Hills set the record with a 690 pound ball of lint. (I'd describe it more as a pile of lint, but I'm in no position to criticize a Guinness World Record) The Dryer Vent Wizard staff was hoping their ball of lint would weigh in at around 1000 pounds, but just like fish, dryer lint balls are prone to exaggeration.

The purpose was to highlight the danger of dryer lint, which causes more than 15,000 fires annually in the U.S. So, after the record was set, the Farmington Hills Fire Department set the lint ball on fire.

Here's the story, with some fantastic photos and a 3 minute video, covering the burning of the lint ball from all angles and the brave firefighters who kept the blaze from getting out of control.
