Trouble in Michigan’s Cereal City – Kellogg Redesigns An Icon
Things were status quo this afternoon when I decided to close my eyes and forget about "everything 2020" for a while. I woke up, refreshed - and picked up my phone. It didn't take long to find trouble on the internet. People at odds with something. Something I thought was safe. Trouble for Toucan Sam.
Oh, it's not Toucan Sam himself that's the problem. He's been lovable since he first started tempting us to get jacked up on Kellogg's Froot Loops in 1963. Even Tiger Woods is a fan. (TMI, Us Magazine, TMI)
No, it's someone at the Kellogg Company who's done something horrible.
They went and changed - redesigned - Toucan Sam. According to NoiseTrend, the redesigned Toucan Sam was introduced just a few days ago on social media. The Toucan Sam we all knew and loved ("Follow my nose! It always knows! The flavor of fruit! Wherever it grows!"), is now a much more basic cartoon version of himself - with a psychedelic nose. He lives in a world you'll see on TV soon, called "Froot Loops World'. A world of milky waterfalls and unicorn fish - but a world where his old self still exists on a box of Froot Loops. The internet does not like any of this. Among my favorite comments on Instagram:
"If I see this abomination on the box I will never allow it in my house again.
"You folks should make sure there isn't a carbon monoxide leak in your office. Then test the drinking water. Something's up".
"That's going to give kids seizures."
