I think it's safe to say that winter has officially arrived in Mid-Michigan.

You know it's true when you've pulled out the Carhartt, your car is covered in road salt, and snowplows start appearing on the roads like heroes entering the scene just in time.

Luckily, Lansing doesn't have to face a brutal winter without some humor.

Every year, Michigan's snowplows get names. And once again, the greater Lansing and Mid-Michigan names prove that they understood the assignment. Yes, these drivers and the snowplows are out there doing serious work, but making the snowplow names as funny and pun-tastic as they are helps the winter blues just a little bit.

Meet the Class of 2025 Snowplows

This year's selection did not disappoint—here are my favorites:

  • Creedence Clear-Road Revival
  • Truck Norris
  • Edgar Allan Snow
  • Chilly Dog
  • Austin Plowers
  • Frosty the Snowplow
  • Big Penny

Other names include Clearopathra, Ebenezer Scoop, Tom Blizzo, Luke Saltwalker, Melton John, Peppy Le Plow, and Snowprah Winfrey.

Michigan winters are long, cold, and harsh. These names don't make them any warmer, but they do make them more fun. Plus, you can actually watch an interactive map with all MDOT's snowplows driving around, so you can see which snowplow is where.

Some names from previous years include Big Lug, REO Plowagon, David Plowie, Sleetwood Mac, Darth Blader, and Ope Just Gonna Plow Right Past Ya.

So the next time a snowplow passes you by, remember it might be Plowshady, making your commute just a little less miserable. And honestly? That's the kind of winter energy Lansing deserves.

Michigan's 5 Most Common Winter Bugs: How to Keep Them Out

Michigan's Falls may be filled with color, but while we're looking up and admiring the trees, bugs are slipping in through tiny little crevices in your home that are essentially little welcome mats for the state's top 5 winter pests. When you're battling bugs, you go to someone who's in the trenches, so I asked Bob Yoakman, Mason, Michigan's Bug Man, for tips on how to keep Michigan's 5 Most Common Winter Bugs at bay.
