This Sunday will be the last time harness racing will take place at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Harness racing started there 70 years ago and continued until 10 years ago. According to MLive.com, once this year's Jackson County Fair is over, the raceway will be bulldozed in order to provide room for a bigger midway and more parking for the fair.

The "Remembering Jackson Harness" event happens this Sunday, July 8th, with opening festivities a little after noon. After that, 61 horses will be involved in 12 races. Food and beer will be available and while you won't be able to bet on the horses, there will be contests - including a contest for best "large, fancy hats". Looks like the weather will be perfect.
