At the time I was really big into DJ-ing with my turntables and I was really interested in getting into radio.

I wanted to show off my interest in both by getting a vanity Michigan license plate that said IMADJ which stood for "I Am A DJ."

Unfortunately for me, I got my mom's old car that wasn't a Ford Mustang and that license plate was already taken by someone else.

In my case that license plate was allowed, someone just beat me to it.

But there are thousands of Michiganders every year who submit for a variety of license plates and get rejected.

There are over 21,000 personalized plates that have been banned by the Michigan Department of State for being dirty, graphic, or hateful.
