Help is on the way for Michigan residents dealing with student loan debt. According to Michigan.gov, the state treasury department will be offering free one-on-one counseling to Michigan residents who are delinquent on their federal student loans. With the one year pilot program, the department will be partnering with a division of the National Student Loan Program and participants will work with counselors to develop a repayment plan, learn how to create a household budget and better understand their credit scores.

As of 2015, Michigan students leave school with an average of $30,045 of debt versus the national average of $30,100. To sign up and to learn more, click here.
