Sports Betting Online Coming to Michigan – Pistons Join In
The Michigan Gaming Control Board allowed Casino’s to do sports betting back in March right before the pandemic shut them down. Now Michigan is on track to legalize online sports betting by mid or late December, after the rules have been approved. The Detroit Pistons have signed a multiyear sponsorship deal with DraftKings Incorporated and FanDuel Group making them official sports betting partners of the Pistons. They are the first NBA team to align with both fantasy sports betting groups.
The deal signals DraftKings' entry into the Michigan market. FanDuel operates the sportsbook at MotorCity Casino, owned by Marian Ilitch. As part of the deal with the Pistons, the FanDuel Sportsbook at MotorCity will offer "exciting game day experiences" such as giveaways and viewing parties, the release said. Through the DraftKings and FanDuel mobile apps, Pistons fans can compete for experiential prizes, including an away-game trip, a group outing at Little Caesars Arena and a "Piston for a Day" VIP experience. The apps will support betting of real money once online betting is implemented in Michigan.
The legalization of sports betting in our state has created several gaming sponsorships from Detroit’s pro sports teams. Deals were cut by the Lions and Red Wings with BetMGM earlier this year. The Tigers signed a deal with PointsBet in July. So hopefully by the new year you will have the opportunity to bet on whatever sports you want from the comfort of your own home, or in reality wherever you are. Technology has showed us how flexible we can be in this day and age, now we can legally gamble from home. The options for Sports Betting are endless. If it exists in sports, you can probably bet on it!
